As social media usage continues to expand across multiple age demographics and platforms. Not to mention, the current political and social environment often has people on edge and at a moment’s notice, one seemingly small vent or comment can go viral leading to unintended consequences for the perpetrator. Recently, we have seen men and women get terminated for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram postings and commentary. These men and women have often commented that it was their free speech and non-company time. However, employers are not taking kindly to negative criticism due to the behavior of employees and have ceased employment with those individuals.
Join the Howard County Chamber’s YPN for much needed conversation around social media, what is acceptable and unacceptable even when you are on your own time.
